Welcome Baby Hospital Liaison - Labor & Delivery (Full-Time/Day)

Under the administrative direction of the Hospital Liaison Supervisor, Program Manager and Director of Welcome Baby Program, plans, manages, delivers and evaluates continuing needs for St. Mary Medical Center (SMMC) clients within the Welcome Baby Program. The Hospital Liaison will coordinate the Welcome, Baby! visit in the hospital. S/he will be based at SMMC to engage families after delivery, provide breastfeeding support, inform families about Welcome, Baby!, and enroll these new families into the program. They will then inform the Welcome, Baby! lead agency of the new families’ information so home visits can be scheduled. This is a grant funded position and continuation of this positions will depend on grant renewal.


  • Minimum of one year experience in Maternal and Newborn Health Services field, including significant experience in working with mothers and newborn infants.
  • Bachelors degree in child development, social work, psychology, human development, public health or a related field.
  • Background in conducting family assessments required.
  • Must be a Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) at a minimum; or certification must be completed within six months of hire. May be a Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC/RLC).
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certification preferred.
  • Willingness to work a flexible day shift schedule that includes Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Skill in organizing and maintaining accurate records preferred.
  • Skill in writing to articulate concepts and ideas in notes and reports preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred, with the ability to communicate in the language(s) represented in the community to be served.
